High IL-10 levels in tumor cells may decrease effectiveness of autologous melanoma vaccine: Study

Scientists from the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson have found that interleukin-10 production in tumor cells is a possible prognostic factor in patients with advanced melanoma who are treated with autologous melanoma cell vaccine. They are presenting their data at the 2010 ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago (Abstract #8588).

John Theurer Cancer Center to showcase treatment advancements for cancer at ASCO 2010

The John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center announced today important research findings that will be presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting taking place June 4 - 8, 2010 in Chicago. Mylan subsidiary receives FDA approval for generic version of Neurontin Tablets

Mylan Inc. today announced that its subsidiary Matrix Laboratories Limited has received final approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its Abbreviated New Drug Application for Gabapentin Tablets USP, 600 mg and 800 mg, the generic version of Pfizer's Neurontin Tablets for the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia, a complication of shingles.

Lovastatin protects animals against plague

An experimental study has revealed that lovastatin, a drug prescribed for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, protects animals against the deadly effects of plague. This infectious disease is on the upsurge in parts of the world.
