FDA grants Orphan Drug Designation to Advaxis' ADXS-HPV for treatment of invasive cervical cancer

Advaxis, Inc., a leader in developing cancer immunotherapies, announced today that it has been granted Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Office of Orphan Products Development (OOPD) for ADXS-HPV, its lead immunotherapy drug candidate, for the treatment of Stage II-IV invasive cervical cancer.

Sleep habits associated with memory in old-age

A new research study led by Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) published in The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society in May, shows an association between midlife and later life sleeping habits with memory; and links extreme sleep durations to worse memory in later life. The study suggests that extreme changes in sleep duration from middle age to older age may also worsen memory function.

Frozen meals closer to meeting Dietary Guidelines than quick service restaurant meals

New analysis of data from the 2003-2010 What We Eat In America (WWEIA) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), indicates that consumers of frozen meals (1) compared to consumers of quick service restaurant (QSR) meals (2) had lower calorie intakes and better Healthy Eating Index (HEI) score. In fact, the analysis revealed that those who consumed frozen meals consumed 253 fewer calories than those who consumed a quick service restaurant meal.

Controlling glucose in the blood may decrease individuals' diabetes risk over time

In healthy individuals, the amount of glucose, or sugar, in the blood increases after eating. When glucose increases, levels of insulin increase to carry the glucose to the rest of the body. Previous research has shown that extreme increases in glucose and insulin in the blood can lead to poor glucose control and increase an individual's risk of developing diabetes over time. Now, a University of Missouri researcher has found that when women consumed high-protein breakfasts, they maintained better glucose and insulin control than they did with lower-protein or no-protein meals.
