Estee Lauder subsidiary and OXIS resolve mitochondria patent dispute

OXIS INTERNATIONAL, INC. and THE ESTEE LAUDER COMPANIES INC. announce today that they have resolved a dispute between an Estee Lauder subsidiary, Applied Genetics Incorporated Dermatics, and Oxis over technology related to U.S. Patent No. 6,103,746 and U.S. Patent No. 6,479,533, entitled "Methods and Compositions for the Protection of Mitochondria."

RA synthetic derivative 4-HPR's ability to induce tumour cell death

Retinoic acid (RA), a natural derivative of vitamin A, is the basis of a number of treatments against cancer. Nevertheless, it has certain disadvantages, such as the possibility of the appearance of retinoic acid syndrome, present in 25 % of cases and which can lead to death. The development of 4-HPR, a synthetic derivative of RA, has meant a considerable advance due to its greater efficacy compared to its predecessor.

New peer-reviewed study on chemopreventive effects of Protandim

LifeVantage Corporation, the maker of Protandim®, a clinically proven, science-based therapy for oxidative stress, announced today that a new peer-reviewed study involving Protandim® was published in the scientific journal PLoS ONE. The study, conducted by researchers at Louisiana State University, examined the biochemical mechanisms that underlie the ability of Protandim® to suppress tumors in mice. Health benefits from polyphenol antioxidants - substances found in many fruits and vegetables - may come at a cost to some people. Penn State nutritional scientists found that eating certain polyphenols decreased the amount of iron the body absorbs, which can increase the risk of developing an iron deficiency.

Regular workouts make women feel more stronger, healthier, confident, energized and accomplished

A new survey of 443 women ages 25-49 finds that those who work out regularly do not just do it to be healthy; they do it to feel like a more confident, energized and accomplished woman. In fact, nearly all active women—more than nine out of 10—say working out regularly makes them feel healthier (100 percent), stronger (98 percent) and more energized (94 percent). These same women report that regular workouts make them feel more confident and accomplished (86 percent).
