Receiving a blood transfusion during curative surgery for the most common type of liver cancer is associated with a much higher risk of cancer recurrence and dying prematurely, according to new research being presented at this year's Euroanaesthesia congress in Vienna, Austria

Immunotherapy increases five-year survival rate of patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer

In a study led by UCLA investigators, treatment with the immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab helped more than 15% of people with advanced non-small cell lung cancer live for at least five years - and 25% of patients whose tumor cells had a specific protein lived at least that long.

Targeted therapy plus hormone therapy improves survival in premenopausal patients with advanced HR+ breast cancer

Adding the targeted therapy ribociclib to hormone therapy significantly improved overall survival (OS) in premenopausal patients with advanced hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer, according to results of the MONALEESA-7 Phase III clinical trial led by researchers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Enzalutamide, an oral androgen receptor inhibitor, can improve outcomes for men with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer, according to a large study presented by Christopher Sweeney, MBBS of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology, during the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting.
