CQDM, OCE grant $1.5M to speed up drug discovery and development in Quebec-Ontario Life Sciences Corridor

CQDM and Ontario Centres of Excellence will fund five highly innovative and unconventional game-changing research and development projects to accelerate drug discovery in the Quebec-Ontario Life Sciences Corridor. Partners are granting $1.5M to Quebec-based and, for the first time, Ontario-based researchers thanks to the partnership with OCE through CQDM's 2014 Explore Program, one of CQDM's flagship programs focusing on early concept validation of cutting-edge technologies that address the most crucial needs in drug discovery and development.

Higher adenoma detection rates linked to lower lifetime colorectal cancer incidence and death

An analysis that included information from more than 57,000 screening colonoscopies suggests that higher adenoma detection rates may be associated with up to 50 percent to 60 percent lower lifetime colorectal cancer incidence and death without higher overall costs, despite a higher number of colonoscopies and potential complications, according to a study in the June 16 issue of JAMA.

CINtec PLUS Cytology test more effective than HC2 HPV test in identifying women with precancerous lesions

Ventana Medical Systems, Inc., a member of the Roche Group, today announced the publication of further results from the Primary ASC-US LSIL Marker Study (PALMS) in this month's issue of Cancer Cytopathology. The PALMS study, which enrolled more than 27,000 women from five European countries, was designed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the CINtec PLUS Cytology test in detecting pre-cancerous cervical disease compared to HPV testing and more traditional screening methods like Pap cytology.

PNP Therapeutics granted FDA orphan drug designation for Gedeptin

PNP Therapeutics Inc. announced today the Food and Drug Administration has granted orphan drug status to Gedeptin, the Company's lead product candidate (adenoviral vector expressing E. coli purine nucleoside phosphorylase gene) for the intratumoral treatment of anatomically accessible oral and pharyngeal cancers, including cancers of the lip, tongue, gum, floor of mouth, salivary gland and other oral cavities.

Genticel’s GTL001 phase 1 clinical study of HPV therapeutic vaccine granted FDA clearance

Genticel, a French biotechnology company and developer of innovative immunotherapies to prevent cancers caused by the human papillomavirus, today announces that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared Genticel’s Investigational New Drug application to conduct in the US a phase 1 clinical study of GTL001 in patients infected with HPV 16 and/or 18, the two HPV types responsible for 70% of cervical cancer cases.
