STS, ESTS collaborate to help improve lung cancer care

A unique collaboration between The Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the European Society of Thoracic Surgery will help improve the quality of patient care by linking outcomes data on chest procedures, beginning with lung cancer surgery, according to an article in the January 2015 issue of The Annals of Thoracic Surgery.

Researchers use whole genome sequencing to track evolution of chicken flu virus

An international research team has shown how changes in a flu virus that has plagued Chinese poultry farms for decades helped create the novel avian H7N9 influenza A virus that has sickened more than 375 people since 2013. The research appears in the current online early edition of the scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

FDA provides Emergency Use Authorization for Roche's LightMix Ebola Zaire rRT-PCR Test

Roche today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has provided an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the LightMix Ebola Zaire rRT-PCR Test for use on patients with signs and symptoms of Ebola Zaire virus infection in conjunction with epidemiological risk factors, such as individuals traveling from West Africa.

Schuler, Birchview Fund LLC and several Vermillion directors. Total proceeds were $10.5 million, before offering expenses.
