Precise method to measure telomeres

Life Length, S.L. is a new biotechnology company set up to measure the length of telomeres which form caps at the end of chromosomes and that have a fundamental role in avoiding the break down and the aging of cells and organisms. The breakthroughs that Dr. Maria Blasco has made at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncologicas, or CNIO) in Madrid, Spain form the founding basis of the company.

BioAlliance wins grant and award for new applications of mucoadhesive Lauriad technology

DeCODE Genetics identify SNPs to derive PSA threshold for diagnosing prostrate cancer

Scientists from deCODE genetics and academic colleagues from Iceland, the UK, US, Netherlands, Spain and Romania today report the discovery of a set of single-letter variations in the sequence of the human genome that impact individual baseline levels of prostate specific antigen, or PSA.

CEL-SCI receives Ukraine government approval for Multikine Phase III clinical trial in head and neck cancer

CEL-SCI Corporation announced today it has received governmental approval from the Health Authority, Ministry of Health of Ukraine, to begin enrollment of subjects for a Phase III clinical trial of Multikine® in Ukraine. Multikine is the Company's flagship immunotherapy developed as a first-line standard of care in treating head and neck cancer. Ukraine is one of nine countries to participate in this global Phase III trial. The Phase III trial will be run at about 48 clinical centers, of which about 6 centers will be in Ukraine.

Combination therapy improves survival rates in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer

A combination therapy for treating cancer discovered at the University of Colorado Cancer Center showed improved survival rates in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), according to results from a double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 2 trial run by Syndax Pharmaceuticals.

Stony Brook University Medical Center will unveil this Friday a one-of-a-kind neuroendovascular simulator that recreates vasculature in the brain, including scenarios of damaged vessels from acute stroke, brain aneurysms, and other cerebrovascular anomalies. State roundup: Minn. to add more adults to Medicaid; Mass. Gov. seeks savings in pensions and health care costs; Ariz. bishop and hospital spar over control

Minnesota can add 95,000 low-income adults to its Medicaid rolls, vastly improving their medical care, at no additional cost to the state, two officials at the state Department of Human Services told legislators Tuesday (Wolfe, 12/15).

ADVENTRX seeks meeting with FDA to discuss ANX-514 docetaxel emulsion study findings

ADVENTRX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced it has submitted a request to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to schedule a meeting for the purpose of discussing its product candidate ANX-514 (docetaxel emulsion for injection). The FDA is expected to set the meeting date within 60 days of receiving the request from ADVENTRX.

In a proof of principal study in mice, scientists at Johns Hopkins and the Virginia Commonwealth University have shown that a set of genetic instructions encased in a nanoparticle can be used as an "ignition switch" to rev up gene activity that aids cancer detection and treatment.

Novel adenovirus-based gene therapy for renal cell carcinoma

Researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center and the VCU Institute of Molecular Medicine (VIMM) have developed a novel virus-based gene therapy for renal cell carcinoma that has been shown to kill cancer cells not only at the primary tumor site but also in distant tumors not directly infected by the virus. Renal cell carcinoma is the most common form of kidney cancer in adults and currently there is no effective treatment for the disease once it has spread outside of the kidney.
