New study: Depression and anxiety may influence physical symptoms

Researchers have for decades hypothesized that negative emotions lead to inflated reports of common physical symptoms, like headaches or an upset stomach. But a new University of Iowa study suggests that two negative emotions -- depression and anxiety -- influence symptom reporting in different ways.

Caliper Life Sciences, Inc. today announced that its licensee Wako Pure Chemical Industries, through its Wako Diagnostics division, has obtained 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its uTASWako® i30 Immunoanalyzer and AFP-L3 and DCP Assays, which are used to assess liver cancer risk in patients with chronic liver disease.

Rural women seek breast cancer screenings for the good of their families

A new study published in the Journal of Consumer Affairs finds that women from rural populations are motivated to seek breast cancer prevention screenings primarily out of concern for the long-term well being of their families. The study shows that by appealing to their strength as caretakers doctors can encourage their rural patients to perform breast health self-examinations, get mammograms, and to talk with doctors about their breast health.
