Oncolytics to present REOLYSIN data for multiple myeloma at EORTC-NCI-AACR symposium

Oncolytics Biotech Inc. today announced that an abstract covering preclinical research with reovirus (REOLYSIN) is available on the European CanCer Organisation (ECCO). The research is scheduled to be presented at the 22nd EORTC-NCI-AACR symposium on Molecular Targets and Cancer Therapeutics being held in Berlin, Germany from November 16th - 19th 2010.

Vertex reports superior SVR rates with telaprevir-based combination therapy in Phase 3 studies for hepatitis C

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated today announced new data from its Phase 3 studies of people with genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C who have not been treated previously. In these studies, the majority of people achieved superior sustained viral response (SVR or viral cure) rates with a telaprevir-based combination regimen, compared to current therapies, regardless of race/ethnicity or stage of liver fibrosis (factors known to limit response to current hepatitis C treatments).

Study finds breast MRI equipment in U.S. meets ACRIN and EUSOBI standards

An overwhelming majority of Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium (BCSC) facilities performing breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the U.S. are up-to-par with American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) and European Society of Breast Imaging (EUSOBI) technical standards and requirements, according to a study in the November issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology.

Scientists use electron microscopes to study mechanism of perforin protein to punch holes in rogue cells

Scientists from the UK and Australia have seen the human immune system's assassin a protein called perforin in action for the first time. The UK team, funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Wellcome Trust, is based at Birkbeck College where they used powerful electron microscopes to study the mechanism that perforin uses to punch holes in rogue cells.
