Offering radiologists a reliable and cost-effective tool to generate automatic volumetric breast density values, Volpara, Ltd., announced today that it has received clearance from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration for its Volpara breast imaging software. Volpara, a subsidiary of Matakina Technology, Limited of New Zealand, is responsible for commercial operations in the United States.

A new study shows that women do not pay heed to diet advice from men. The study conducted by the Australian National University (ANU) suggests women are more inclined to listen and change their behaviour if the speaker is also female.

COPD both a burden and a loss

Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, revealed that they perceive their disease as both a burden they must deal with and as a loss they have experienced, according to recent in-home research conducted by GlaxoSmithKline. Patients participating in the research characterized their sense of loss as a combination of factors including loss of energy, loss of control, loss of independence and loss of their old self.

Health literacy leads to less hospitalization for heart failure

Being able to read and understand words like anemia, hormones and seizure means a patient with heart failure may be less likely to be hospitalized, according to a new study from Emory University School of Medicine. Findings will be presented Nov. 17 at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions conference in Chicago.

OSEO awards €10.4 million to DIPPAL project targeting Alzheimer's disease

The biotech companies PHARNEXT and BIOSYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL, the Bordeaux Hospital where CMRR is located, the university Bordeaux Segalen and Inserm (the center U897 "Epidemiology and Biostatistics") have joined forces to carry out the DIPPAL2i project. This innovative research and industrial development project is targeting Alzheimer's disease (AD) and has attracted significant financial support from OSEO (the French state innovation agency).

Multidisciplinary clinic approach can improve survival in patients with aggressive prostate cancer

A research team from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Kimmel Cancer Center (KCC) at Jefferson has concluded for the first time that a multidisciplinary clinic approach to aggressive prostate cancer can improve survival in patients. The results from the 15-year study of the multidisciplinary clinic can be found in the November issue of Journal of Oncology Practice.
