Maternal serotonin deficiency linked to development of ADHD in children

Children whose mothers are genetically predisposed to have impaired production of serotonin appear more likely to develop attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) later in life, according to a report in the October issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.

FDA grants marketing clearance for EarlySense's EverOn Central Display Station

EarlySense announced today that its EverOn Central Display Station (CDS) has been cleared for marketing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA clearance covers the ability of the system to collect real time vital sign information from up to 36 EverOn bedside monitors and display the information on a computer screen at the nurse's station.

American Anesthesiology acquires Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants

American Anesthesiology, a subsidiary of MEDNAX, Inc., today announced the acquisition of Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants, P.A., a physician group practice that provides anesthesia care and pain management services at nine hospitals, 12 ambulatory surgery centers and 10 pain management centers principally located in the Charlotte, NC, metropolitan area.

NIH awards contract to develop nanotechnology tools for atherosclerosis treatment

Georgia Tech and Emory University have received a five-year $14.6 million contract from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to continue the development of nanotechnology and biomolecular engineering tools and methodologies for detecting and treating atherosclerosis.

Elsevier announces that the Journal of the American Society of Hypertension (JASH) has been selected for inclusion in MEDLINE. MEDLINE is the premier bibliographic database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), containing over 15 million journal article citations, with a concentration on biomedicine.

Look AHEAD intervention program improves risk factors in obese, type 2 diabetic patients

An intensive lifestyle intervention program designed to achieve and maintain weight loss improves diabetes control and cardiovascular disease risk factors in overweight and obese individuals with type 2 diabetes, according to four-year results of the Look AHEAD study, funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The results are published in the Sept. 27, 2010, issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.
