Patients enrolled in CLARITY-AF study

Biosense Webster, Inc., a worldwide leader in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, announces that more than 10 patients have now been enrolled in the CLARITY-study, comparing the efficacy, safety and efficiency of CARTO 3 System guided radiofrequency ablation using the NAVISTAR THERMOCOOL catheter versus fluoroscopy guided radiofrequency ablation using the Pulmonary Vein Ablation catheter (Ablation Frontiers, Medtronic) in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

Medicare agency releases data on hospital performance

MedPage Today: "The public can now review data on the quality of outpatient care provided by individual hospitals at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' Hospital Compare website. The site previously contained only data on inpatient care quality. All the data are derived from records of Medicare patients treated at more than 3,600 hospitals nationwide."

CompuMed secures extended contracts with Oklahoma and Arizona's departments of corrections

CompuMed, Inc., a medical informatics and telemedicine services company, has secured extended contracts to provide its signature CardioGram™ electrocardiogram (ECG) remote interpretation systems and over-read services for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (OKDOC) and Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) at selected facilities throughout both states. The OKDOC rents 21 CardioGram systems, and the ADC owns 45 CardioGram systems.

First patient enrolled in Boston Scientific's MultiSENSE clinical trial

Boston Scientific Corporation today announced enrollment of the first patient in its MultiSENSE clinical trial. The trial is designed to evaluate multiple physiologic sensors in the Company's COGNIS cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillators. Boston Scientific plans to use the trial data to help develop a clinical alert that identifies the early onset of worsening heart failure.

New findings reported in the July issue of Cell Metabolism, a Cell Press publication, are offering new leads as to why some people might suffer from high levels of triglycerides. High triglycerides are a risk factor for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. They can also lead to inflammation of the pancreas, the researchers said.
