ESC, EACPR urges MEPs to vote in favour of traffic light system for food labelling

KCI's Prevena Incision Management System receives FDA clearance

Kinetic Concepts, Inc. announced today it has received 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration for the Prevena Incision Management System, a negative pressure wound therapy product designed for management of surgically closed incisions. KCI estimates more than three million procedures are performed each year worldwide that could benefit from treatment with the Prevena System, representing a potential global opportunity greater than $1 billion.

Transcatheter valve-in-valve implantation provides option for high-risk elderly patients

Doctors at the University Heart Center in Hamburg, Germany successfully used transcatheter valve-in-valve implantation in elderly patients with degenerated bioprostheses in aortic and mitral position. This minimally invasive procedure was used as an alternative treatment option for patients who were at high surgical risk.

Study examines survival rates of CF patients with MRSA

A team of researchers led by Elliott Dasenbrook, MD, MHS, Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Associate Director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program at University Hospitals Case Medical Center's Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital today published the findings from a major study about cystic fibrosis survival rates in the June 16 issue of JAMA.

Interventions are needed to make people exercise after cardiac event

Researchers from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University found that one year after 248 individuals completed a 12-week cardiac rehabilitation program following a heart attack, bypass surgery or angioplasty, only 37% exercised three times a week to keep their hearts healthy.

Dr. Jayant Patel, 60, is pleading not guilty to the manslaughter of Mervyn Morris, Gerry Kemps and James Phillips and grievous bodily harm to Ian Vowles during his time as director of surgery at the Bundaberg Base Hospital between 2003 and 2005. In new developments the Brisbane Supreme Court heard many medical specialists give evidence against Patel’s decision to operate on Mr. Phillips in May 2003 who later died.
