EHSI reports favorable completion of due diligence with Stand-By Systems

Emerging Healthcare Solutions, Inc. disclosed today that the Company has just favorably completed the financial review phase of due diligence with Stand-By Systems. EHSI recently executed an option with Stand-By Systems; owner of the new FDA approved SBS 1615 catalytic oxygen generator, as well as the associated LIFEDGE® and MAYDAY® emergency systems. EHSI is currently performing due diligence under this option.

Ziehm Imaging and Pie Medical Imaging BV have joined forces to make the CAAS quantification software available on mobile C-arms dedicated for cardiovascular procedures. Mayo Clinic Hospital in northeast Phoenix made history on May 3, 2010, when it became the first hospital in the U.S. to discharge a patient with an artificial heart - after he had been hospitalized for more than two years.

Boston Scientific collaborates with Philips, Siemens to offer integrated imaging systems

Boston Scientific Corporation today announced collaborations with Philips Healthcare and Siemens Medical Solutions to enable the use of its iLab® Ultrasound Imaging System with the Philips Allura™ Xper and the Siemens AXIOM™ Artis and Artis™ zee interventional X-ray systems. Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) technology is designed to provide physicians a 360-degree view inside the heart and coronary vessels to assist with diagnosis and to generate a more accurate image of the diseased vessels than is possible with angiography alone.

DAPT Study expands into seven countries in the EU: HCRI

The Harvard Clinical Research Institute announced today that the DAPT Study has expanded into seven countries in the European Union. John Irving, MBChB, MRCP, M.D., consultant cardiologist at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, United Kingdom, was the first European investigator to enroll patients into the study.

Bayer's Adalat XL product and Mylan's nifedipine extended release 60 mg not bioequivalent: Study

Bayer Inc. today responded to Professor Marvin Meyer's letter to the editor, entitled: "Critical questions concerning the validity of the Bayer study report of differences in bioavailability between 60 mg of nifedipine osmotic push-pull systems after fasted and fed administration" and published in the online edition of the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Bayer responded to the clinical relevance of the differences in formulation and dissolution behaviour and the delayed absorption of Mylan's extended release nifedipine.

Research led by Liwei Chen, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Public Health at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans, has found that there is an association between sugary drinks and blood pressure and that by cutting daily consumption of sugary drinks by just one serving a day, people can lower their blood pressure.

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease may have fewer respiratory flare-ups and longer survival if they take beta-blocker medications, according to a report in the May 24 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.

Thymosin beta 4 reduces brain tissue damage, improves brain function in rats: Research paper

RegeneRx Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today that in a preclinical research paper published in the May 2010 issue of the Journal of Neurosurgery, (online ahead of publication), scientists found that the systemic administration of thymosin beta 4, or Tβ4, significantly reduced brain tissue damage and improved brain function in rats with traumatic brain injury, or TBI.

Phase 1 clinical trial of OXY111A initiated

NormOxys Inc., a biotechnology company developing a novel class of small molecule drugs which enhance the body's ability to deliver oxygen to diseased tissues, today announced that it has initiated a Phase 1 clinical trial of OXY111A, a novel allosteric modulator of affinity of oxygen to hemoglobin.
