People living in neighbourhoods where they perceived traffic made it unpleasant to walk were more likely to have a higher BMI than those who didn't, according to a new University of Alberta study looking at the relationship between the built environment, socio-economic status, and changes in body mass index over a six year period.

Many pregnant women in the U.S. have insufficient vitamin D levels: Study

Seven out of every ten pregnant women in the United States are not getting enough Vitamin D according to a study published in the May issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. While prenatal vitamins do raise Vitamin D levels during pregnancy, the study shows that higher doses may be needed for many women.

FDA approves software upgrade to Boston Scientific's LATITUDE Patient Management system

Boston Scientific Corporation today announced U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for LATITUDE 6.0, a software upgrade to the Company's LATITUDE® Patient Management system. The LATITUDE system enables physicians to remotely monitor patients with implantable cardiac devices. The upgrade provides enhanced functionality, including the ability to view an expanded history of a patient's remote follow-up data.

A 75 minute wait for ambulance costs life of a heart patient in North Queensland

On Monday a 44 year old man from Marian west of Mackay, called an ambulance after he developed heart problems. The paramedics reached his home more than an hour later to find him dead. The man called an ambulance at 1.31pm (AEST) on Monday but the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) said paramedics did not arrive until 2.46pm.
