FDA approves Celsius RMT ThermoCool catheter for use with Stereotaxis' magnetic navigation system

Stereotaxis announced that the Celsius® RMT ThermoCool® catheter has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use with Stereotaxis' magnetic navigation system for the treatment of Type 1 atrial flutter. The product is the fifth advanced ablation catheter resulting from the on-going co-development agreement between Stereotaxis and Biosense Webster to design and distribute magnetically enabled catheters for mapping and ablation.

Second pivotal efficacy study not required for MAP Pharmaceuticals' LEVADEX NDA

MAP Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has informed the Company that a second pivotal efficacy study is not required for the Company's LEVADEX(TM) new drug application (NDA) submission for the acute treatment of migraine. The Company announced in May 2009 that the efficacy portion of its Phase 3 FREEDOM-301 clinical study of LEVADEX met all four primary endpoints. The Company had previously anticipated initiating a second pivotal efficacy study in the first quarter of 2010.

ProPublica examines USAID efforts to fund, train local organizations in Pakistan

"As the United States prepares to drastically increase civilian aid in Pakistan, [USAID,] the agency in charge has asked for help training the local organizations that will spend that aid money, saying those organizations 'do not meet the minimum standards for managing' U.S. government funds," ProPublica reports in a story that examines the challenges associated with channeling aid money for Pakistan away from American contractors and NGOs to Pakistani organizations.

ARCA biopharma to receive US patent for methods of heart failure treatment with genetic testing based bucindolol

ARCA biopharma, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company developing genetically targeted therapies for heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases, today announced that it has received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for its U.S. Patent Application Number 11/226,908 entitled “Methods for Treatment with Bucindolol Based on Genetic Targeting.” The Notice of Allowance is the USPTO’s official communication that the examination of the patent application has been successfully completed and that a patent will be issued.
