Genta commences Phase 2b trial of tesetaxel in patients with advanced gastric cancer

Genta Incorporated today announced that the Company has initiated a confirmatory Phase 2b trial of tesetaxel in patients with advanced gastric cancer. Tesetaxel is the Company's newest clinical-stage small molecule. As a late Phase 2 oncology product, tesetaxel is the leading oral taxane currently in clinical development.

DSMB for DIGNITY trial recommends Celsion continue enrollment

Celsion Corporation announced today that after reviewing safety data from the 40mg/m2 cohort, the DIGNITY Study Drug Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) has recommended that Celsion continue to enroll patients in the trial and that new patients be treated at a ThermoDox® dose of 50mg/m2.

Eisai Europe seeks EMA approval of eribulin mesylate for locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer

Eisai Europe Ltd. today announced that it has submitted a marketing authorization application to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for approval of eribulin mesylate, also known as 'E7389', for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer in Europe. Eribulin mesylate, a non-taxane microtubule dynamics inhibitor, is an investigational chemical compound discovered and developed by Eisai. Regulatory applications for eribulin mesylate have also been submitted in the United States and Japan.

CTRC initiates patient enrolment in U.S. Phase 2 clinical trial of REOLYSIN

Phase ll clinical trial results for late-stage colorectal cancer patients demonstrate that when DAVANAT® is co-administered with the chemotherapy drug 5-FU, survival increased by 46% over the best standard of care and reduced serious adverse events associated with chemotherapy.

Pacemaker in stomach can help treat severe stomach disorders and chronic vomiting

People with severe stomach disorders can sometimes suffer from chronic vomiting. This symptom can be treated with electrical impulses from a pacemaker in the stomach. A new method enables patients who could benefit from this treatment to be identified, and electrical stimulation leads to reduced nausea and fewer days in hospital, shows a study from the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Erbitux can now be used in Japan as 1st-line treatment for mCRC: Merck Serono

Merck Serono, a division of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, announced today that Erbitux® (cetuximab) can now be used in Japan in combination with chemotherapy in the 1st-line treatment for patients with epidermal growth factor receptor -expressing, curatively unresectable (inoperable), advanced or recurrent colorectal cancer carrying the KRAS wildtype gene.

Norovirus outbreak associated with oysters: FDA and Mississippi, Louisiana public health agencies issue warning

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is working with state health officials from Mississippi and Louisiana to notify consumers, food service operators and retailers nationwide about an outbreak of norovirus associated with oysters recently harvested from an area near Port Sulphur, La. known as Area 7. The oysters were sold or distributed nationwide.
