People living with diabetes to increase up to 435 million by 2030

The latest International Diabetes Federation (IDF) data reveals that over 285 million people worldwide now live with diabetes and this number will explode to 435 million by 2030. This staggering figure does not capture the toll the disease takes on the individual. Unlike other diseases, people with diabetes are responsible for 95% of their own care and many are doing so without the proper skills and knowledge to do so.

Novo Nordisk's Levemir not associated with increase in the incidence of cancer

A meta-analysis of clinical data published today in Diabetologia, the medical journal for the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), demonstrated that the Novo Nordisk long-acting insulin Levemir® (insulin detemir [rDNA origin] injection) was not associated with any increase in the incidence of cancer when compared to human insulin.

Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd. (“DSP”) and Sepracor Inc. today announce the successful completion of DSP’s acquisition of Sepracor for US$23.00 per share in cash. DSP completed the acquisition through a cash tender offer and by exercising an option to acquire additional shares directly from Sepracor followed by a short-form merger of an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of DSP with and into Sepracor on October 20, 2009. Sepracor is now an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of DSP.
