TapImmune announces definitive purchase agreement for Senior Secured Convertible Notes totaling $1.53M

TapImmune Inc., a Nevada corporation, announced today that the Company entered into a definitive purchase agreement on May 17, 2010 with accredited investors to place Senior Secured Convertible Notes totaling $1.53 million. The net proceeds of the financing will be used for the development of certain partnerships and for general working capital.

Pharmasset, Inc. announced today the underwriters of its recent stock offering have exercised their option to purchase an additional 480,000 shares of common stock. Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) can prevent critical illness polyneuromyopathy (CIPNM), according to Greek researchers. CIPNM is an acquired limb and respiratory muscle weakness that is a common and serious problem among intensive care unit patients, and can result in prolonged ICU and hospital stay. EMS can also shorten the duration of weaning from mechanical ventilation and the length of ICU stay.

Altered blood flow leads to falls in elderly people: Research

A new study shows that altered blood flow in the brain due to high blood pressure and other conditions may lead to falls in elderly people. The research will be published in the May 18, 2010, issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology. Each year, unintentional falls in the United States account for more than 16,000 deaths and 1.8 million emergency room visits.

High fat diet linked to exacerbation of asthma

In a new study researchers have found a connection between exacerbation of bronchial asthma and high calorie burgers and fries. Diet and lifestyle have been linked to asthma for some time now but this is the first real evidence. With the advent of unhealthy diets the incidence and prevalence of asthma is on the rise. In 2007, about 34.1 million Americans had asthma, according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. From 1980 through 1994, the prevalence of asthma increased by 75 percent.
