Allergan receives FDA approval to market JUVEDERM ULTRA XC for use in lips

Allergan plc, a leading global pharmaceutical company, today announced that the company has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market JUVEDERM ULTRA XC for injection into the lips and perioral area for lip augmentation in adults over the age of 21. JUVEDERM ULTRA XC instantly adds fullness to the lips and is the only dermal filler that has proven results lasting up to one year for lip augmentation.

Collaborative program aims at reducing cancer burden among Hispanic/Latinos receives grant from NCI

A collaborative program aimed at reducing the burden of cancer among Hispanic/Latinos in San Diego and Imperial counties through research and community outreach has received a $13 million grant from the National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health. The five-year grant renews funding for a partnership started in 2008 between San Diego State University and Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health.

Frequent infections in early life may increase risk factor for coeliac disease development in later life

Children with frequent infections in the first 18 months of life have a slightly increased risk of later developing coeliac disease compared with children who have few infections. This is the conclusion from a study by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

Study may lead to new insights on use of aspirin in GI cancer

Aspirin improves survival in patients with tumours situated throughout the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, results from a large study in The Netherlands show. This is the first time that survival data from patients with tumours in different GI locations have been analysed at the same time; previously, only one type of cancer, usually colorectal, was studied.

Edward-Elmhurst Health, UChicago Medicine agree to provide advanced care to children in west and southwest regions

Edward-Elmhurst Health and the University of Chicago Medicine have reached an agreement to expand access to advanced subspecialty care for infants and children in west and southwest suburban communities. The affiliation will bring nationally recognized UChicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital experts across a dozen pediatric subspecialties to new outpatient clinics at Edward Hospital in Naperville and Elmhurst Hospital.

Common IBD therapeutic target may protect against intestinal inflammation

Investigators at Children's Hospital Los Angeles have found that a common therapeutic target for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) may actually protect against intestinal inflammation by inhibiting pathogenic T-cells. This discovery, reported in the October 2015 issue of Gastroenterology, could lead to new treatment options for the 65 percent of individuals with IBD who do not respond or become resistant to anti-TNF medications.
