Preclinical data in neuroblastoma for perifosine to be presented at AACR 2010 Meeting

Aeterna Zentaris Inc., a late-stage drug development company specialized in oncology and endocrine therapy, today announced that preclinical data in neuroblastoma for perifosine, the Company's novel, potentially first-in-class, oral anti-cancer agent that inhibits Akt activation in the phosphoinositide 3-kinase pathway, will be presented at the 101st Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, currently being held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

MMRC Multiple Myeloma Genomics Initiative presented at AACR 2010

An analysis of 38 myeloma tumor genomes surveyed through extensive next-generation sequencing by the Broad Institute has revealed intriguing recurrent mutations that point to important cellular pathways which contribute to multiple myeloma. These data were revealed during an oral presentation entitled "First Impressions of the Multiple Myeloma Genome" by Todd R. Golub, MD, Director of the Cancer Program at the Eli and Edythe L. Broad Institute.

Johnson & Johnson today announced sales of $15.6 billion for the first quarter of 2010, an increase of 4.0% as compared to the first quarter of 2009. Operational results declined 0.1% and the positive impact of currency was 4.1%.

RANKL inhibition may prove effective in treatment of human malignancy, suggests study

Amgen today announced results of a preclinical study demonstrating a positive response to administration of RANK-Fc against mammary tumor formation in mouse models. OPG-Fc and RANK-Fc bind to and block the action of RANKL. These molecules have a comparable mechanism of action to denosumab. The study was presented today in a late-breaking abstract at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) 101st Annual Meeting 2010 in Washington, D.C.

EntreMed completes common stock registered direct offering of 5,791,505 shares

EntreMed, Inc. today announced that it completed a registered direct offering of 5,791,505 shares of its common stock, at a purchase price of $0.518 per share, to an existing accredited institutional investor. The sale resulted in gross proceeds to the Company of approximately $3 million. The terms of the purchase were set forth in a stock purchase agreement between the parties dated April 16, 2010. The per share purchase price reflects a 20% discount to the volume weighted average price on April 15, 2010.

Results of study comparing REMICADE to azathioprine for Crohn's disease published

Findings published today in The New England Journal of Medicine from a first-of-its-kind comparator trial evaluating the anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha biologic treatment REMICADE (infliximab) in the treatment of moderately to severely active Crohn's disease in patients who were naive to immunomodulator and biologic therapy, showed that a significantly greater proportion of patients receiving REMICADE achieved steroid-free remission and mucosal healing compared with patients receiving azathioprine.

Revlimid now available to multiple myeloma patients in Nova Scotia

Following the broadcast on CTV's W5 of the plight of multiple myeloma patient Frank Boyd and his inability to obtain appropriate drug treatment, on March 27, the President of Myeloma Canada, John Lemieux, immediately wrote to the Honourable Maureen MacDonald, Minister of Health of Nova Scotia urging her to implement an interim arrangement to ensure that Revlimid is available to multiple myeloma patients, including Mr. Boyd, in Nova Scotia.

EntreMed commences Phase 2 study of ENMD-2076 for platinum resistant ovarian cancer

EntreMed, Inc. today announced the initiation of a multi-center Phase 2 study with its lead oncology product candidate, ENMD-2076, in patients with platinum resistant ovarian cancer. The study will be conducted at up to six sites in the United States and Canada. In addition, EntreMed received a No Objection Letter (NOL) from the Therapeutic Products Directorate of Health Canada on its Clinical Trial Application to conduct the Phase 2 clinical trial in ovarian cancer patients.
