Seattle Genetics and Agensys expand ADC collaboration

Seattle Genetics, Inc. (Nasdaq: SGEN) and Agensys, Inc., an affiliate of Astellas, announced today an expansion of the companies’ antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) collaboration. Under the amended agreement, Agensys will pay a $12 million fee for exclusive rights to ADC licenses against additional antigen targets. New biomarkers can predict patients' response to certain drugs

Recent advances in cancer therapeutics have led to the discovery of biomarkers that can predict patient response to certain drugs. Screening for mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGRF) prior to non-small cell lung cancer treatment, for example, has been shown to indentify patients who are likely to respond to treatment with erlontinib. This maximizes the drug's impact, and spares patients who are not likely to benefit from being subjected to potentially debilitating side effects.

Allos Therapeutics awards NCCN a grant to evaluate pralatrexate

NCCN recently received a research grant from Allos Therapeutics, Inc. to evaluate the role of pralatrexate in the treatment of select hematologic malignancies and solid tumors. Pralatrexate is the only agent currently approved by the FDA to treat patients with relapsed or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma. Investigators from NCCN Member Institutions are eligible to apply for the research funding.
