New technique could help scientists to predict how living prostate tissues respond to therapy

Scientists at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, University of Helsinki and Stanford University have developed a technique to keep normal and cancerous prostate tissue removed during surgery alive and functioning normally in the laboratory for up to a week.

Men battling prostate cancer who receive Image Guided Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy after undergoing prostatectomy have an excellent chance of retaining sexual function, according to a study by Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) cancer specialists presented this week at the annual meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology in San Diego.

Soligenix completes enrollment in RiVax Phase 1B ricin toxin clinical trial

Soligenix, Inc., a late-stage biopharmaceutical company, reported today that it has completed enrollment of its Phase 1B clinical trial of RiVax™, a ricin subunit vaccine, in healthy volunteers. Preliminary results indicate that RiVax™ appears safe at all doses tested in volunteers. Fast Neutron Radiotherapy safe and effective for treatment of non-small cell lung cancer: Study

Scientists from the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSU SOM) in Detroit are presenting two research studies that found the use of Fast Neutron Radiotherapy (FNRT) – a form of radiation that is about three times more powerful than typical photon radiotherapy – is highly effective and safe for patients who are dealing with non-small cell lung cancer. The findings are being formally presented Monday, Nov. 1, at the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) Annual Meeting.
