Celgene announces fiscal 2009 third-quarter results

Celgene Corporation announced non-GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) net income of $259.8 million, or non-GAAP earnings per diluted share of $0.56 for the quarter ended September 30, 2009. Non-GAAP net income for the third quarter of 2008 was $185.9 million, or non-GAAP earnings per diluted share of $0.40.

GeneNews announces the publication of a paper in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology

GeneNews Limited, a company focused on developing blood-based biomarker tests for the early detection of diseases and personalized health management, today announced the publication of a paper in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology. The paper reports data using GeneNews' proprietary Sentinel Principle(R) platform technology to identify complex changes in blood gene expression patterns that were differentially regulated between active and inactive Crohn's disease.

Northwest Biotherapeutics announces long-term data from Phase I and Phase I/II clinical trials of DCVax-Brain

Northwest Biotherapeutics, Inc. today announced further long-term follow-up data, for the period from January through September 2009, from its prior Phase I and Phase I/II clinical trials conducted at UCLA with DCVax®-Brain in patients with Glioblastoma multiforme ("GBM"). GBM is the most rapid and lethal type of brain cancer. During the update period, only one of the twenty patients treated with DCVax®-Brain (in addition to standard of care) died, and that patient had survived for nearly 7 years (80.5 months).

Professor secures grant for further research on immunotherapy strategies

Venuprasad K. Poojary, Ph.D., assistant professor at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University School of Medicine, has secured a two-year federal grant for almost $1 million to further his research into creating more effective immunotherapy strategies for cancer treatment.

Herrick Foundation's $3M grant for cancer research

The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute announced today it received a $3 million grant from the Herrick Foundation. The initial gift of $1 million launches The Herrick Foundation Cancer Research Challenge, a special initiative to increase research funding at the Karmanos Cancer Institute over the next four years. The additional commitment of $2 million will be given in match funding.
