Chaos models may someday help model cardiac arrhythmias -- abnormal electrical rhythms of the heart, say researchers in the journal CHAOS, which is published by the American Institute of Physics. In recent years, medical research has drawn more attention to chaos in cardiac dynamics. Although chaos marks the disorder of a dynamical system, locating the origin of chaos and watching it develop might allow researchers to predict, and maybe even counteract, certain outcomes.

Scientists discover world's first mass producible, low-cost organoclays for plastics

Scientists are reporting an in-depth validation of the discovery of the world's first mass producible, low-cost, organoclays for plastics. The powdered material, made from natural clay, would be a safer, more environmentally friendly replacement for the compound widely used to make plastics nanocomposites. A report on the research appears in ACS' Macromolecules, a bi-weekly journal.

Gay and bisexual men enrolled in a long-term study of HIV who reported sexual abuse and social shaming in childhood experience psychosocial health problems later in life that could put them at greater risk for HIV, report University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health researchers at the XVIII International AIDS Conference.

Southeast Emergency Consultants changes name to Titan Emergency Group

Southeast Emergency Consultants, an emergency medicine physician group that contracts with hospitals throughout the Southeast, changed its name to Titan Emergency Group announced Ray Gyarmathy, M.D., F.A.A.E.M., the company's president. The group selected the name to kick off a period of aggressive growth to expand the number of hospitals where it provides emergency department staffing and support services. The new name better reflects the company's personality and eliminates any potential confusion related to its geographic service area.
