New results from a major initiative on the quality of cancer care in the United States show that patients with a common type of colon cancer -- especially older patients -- often are not treated as aggressively with chemotherapy as research shows is necessary to improve survival.

Half of all NeeS dossiers rejected for poor formatting and inability to meet basic validation standards

The French health authority has revealed that it is rejecting half of all NeeS (non-eCTD electronic submissions) dossiers because they have been poorly formatted and do not meet basic validation standards. This is costing pharmaceutical companies time and money, as they re-work the submission format, and incur delays in getting their submissions reviewed and approved. Two-thirds of all electronic submissions to AFSSAPS currently are in the NeeS format.

The NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology have been further recognized as the global standard in oncology with the announcement that select NCCN Guidelines™ are being translated into Japanese. The Translational Research Informatics Center Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation, under the supervision of the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum, has translated the NCCN Guidelines for Colon Cancer and Rectal Cancer, which are now available online.

Experts meeting at the 14th Intergovernmental Committee meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, which kicked off on Sunday, are focusing on food security in East Africa, where FAO says 20 million people are vulnerable, the New Times/allAfrica.com reports. The U.N. Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) sub-regional office, East Africa, also says the region is the most affected by food insecurity on the continent, according to the publication.

Avedro, Inc. today announced it has signed a definitive agreement with Swiss-based Peschke Meditrade GmbH to acquire the rights to its Phase III studies of Corneal Collagen Crosslinking for the treatment of progressive keratoconus and post LASIK ectasia.
