LaserBand LLC, a worldwide leader in patient identification wristbands, was announced as the sole source provider of proprietary patient identification (ID) wristbands and related products for Premier’s ASCEND (Accelerated Supply Chain Endeavor) members. Under the recently signed agreement with Premier Purchasing Partners, L.P., LaserBand’s newest generation of wristbands will be available through this specially negotiated contract to the more than 100 ASCEND member hospitals and health systems nationwide, effective February 1, 2010.

ASCEND (Accelerated Supply Chain Endeavor) is designed to help healthcare providers achieve and sustain rapid improvements in supply chain performance. It also assists Premier alliance member hospitals in ongoing efforts to control and reduce costs through simplified purchasing processes, appropriate clinical utilization and specially negotiated contracts. More than 100 participants that represent approximately $2.8 billion in supply chain purchasing volume and close to 25,000 hospital beds are collaborating to share best practices in supply chain efficiency as a part of the program.

LaserBand’s Director of National Accounts, Dave Freshwater, said, “We are extremely proud that our on-going relationship with one of the nation’s largest GPO will now extend the benefits of LaserBand’s leading-edge wristbands to the ASCEND members within Premier.” The new agreement is expected to ease implementation and improve workflow of ASCEND members’ patient identification processes while improving their patients’ safety and comfort.

LaserBand is unique in its industry, holding twice as many patient identification wristband patents as all competitors combined. No other manufacturer offers a complete direct-print laser and thermal product solution that works with all existing patient ID technologies and includes water-and-alcohol-resistant, self-laminating wristbands for maximum protection of critical patient data.
