TeamHealth (NYSE: TMH) announced today the acquisition of Rhode Island Emergency Physicians (RIEP), the emergency physician group that staffs the emergency department at South County Hospital in Wakefield, Rhode Island. South County Hospital chose TeamHealth, who will work with the existing group of physicians to provide management and staffing services for the hospital's 30,000 annual patient volume emergency department.

Under the leadership of Timothy Drury, M.D., President of RIEP, the group has managed the emergency department at South County Hospital for 30 years. Seeking a partner to provide necessary infrastructure to help improve the group's service to the hospital and patients, Dr. Drury chose TeamHealth, stating, "We were drawn to TeamHealth because of its proven ability to provide our physicians with the necessary tools to improve operations in areas such as wait times, quality assurance, practice support, continuing education, and more." Dr. Drury will continue in his role as Emergency Department Medical Director at South County Hospital.

"We were pleased to expand our relationship with TeamHealth by developing metrics for our emergency department that are focused on quality of care and customer service," said Louis Giancola, CEO, South County Hospital. "Having worked with TeamHealth since 2007 through our hospital medicine program, we are confident that this relationship will ensure a mutually beneficial approach to emergency care."

"We congratulate Dr. Drury on 30 years of leadership and look forward to working with the existing stable group of physicians," John Hellmann, Executive Vice President, TeamHealth East. "We are excited about the synergies between the hospital medicine program and the emergency department that will have a positive impact on the hospital, its medical staff, and their patients."
