Arcadia Resources, Inc. (NYSE Amex: KAD), a leading provider of innovative consumer health care services under the Arcadia HealthCare(SM) and DailyMed Pharmacy program, today announced the healthcare reform bill advanced in the U.S. House of Representatives on March 21st contains important provisions related to medication therapy management (MTM) including a series of grant and pilot programs. These same provisions were also part of the healthcare reform measure passed by the Senate in December 2009.
"Over the past five years, Arcadia through our DailyMed Pharmacy program, has advocated the vision that medication adherence is best managed by knowledgeable pharmacists who maintain regular contact with patients and physicians and understand the complex array of each individual patient's medication regimen," said Marvin R. Richardson, President and CEO of Arcadia. "DailyMed, our comprehensive MTM program, enables us to effectively manage patients' adherence to all of their prescription medications, which in turn leads to better patient compliance and outcomes together with reduced healthcare spending. Today, as a nation we spend an estimated $290 billion, or 13 percent of all healthcare expenditures as result of poor medication adherence. As a leader in innovative pharmacy programs, we applaud the healthcare reform legislation, which highlights the value of MTM programs. We look forward to the opportunities to work with the Administration on pilot programs that further demonstrate the value of DailyMed to improve patient care and lower healthcare costs by more effectively managing chronic medication utilization."
