Vanguard Health Systems announced today it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of the Arizona Heart Hospital from a venture that includes MedCath and local physicians.
“The addition of the Arizona Heart Hospital to Abrazo Health Care is a milestone in our effort to build a superior, clinically integrated cardiovascular health care delivery system in this region”
This announcement follows Vanguard's announcement last week of its agreement to acquire the Arizona Heart Institute. The Arizona Heart Institute is a part-owner of Arizona Heart Hospital, LLC. Both the Heart Institute and the Heart Hospital would join Vanguard's Abrazo Health Care system which includes five hospitals throughout the Phoenix area, Abrazo Medical Group, and two health plans, Phoenix Health Plan and Abrazo Advantage.
"The addition of the Arizona Heart Hospital to Abrazo Health Care is a milestone in our effort to build a superior, clinically integrated cardiovascular health care delivery system in this region," said Dan F. Ausman, President of Abrazo Health Care. "The Arizona Heart Hospital has built a reputation for extraordinary, world class cardiovascular care, which has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. They have combined that with an exceptional patient experience complemented by a research and academic program that has gained national attention for excellence. We could not be happier to have them join and strengthen our family."
"We are extremely honored to have had this opportunity to add to our growing health system in Phoenix. We are excited at the prospect of teaming with such remarkable leaders, physicians and staff to make a difference in the lives of the people in Phoenix and beyond," Ausman said.
