Hospital upgrades: Promises to keep

The Victorian Coalition has announced hospital upgrades around the state and softened its opposition of the national health agreement.

Nationals seat of Rodney, party leader Peter Ryan has announced $40 million to fund redevelopment of Echuca’s hospital, while Coalition leader Ted Baillieu pledged $17.85m for the first part of an upgrade at Kerang Hospital.

Mr Baillieu also promised an additional 100 beds during the redevelopment of Box Hill Hospital, in Melbourne’s north eastern suburbs. He said, “There is no doubt the hospital is tired, the facilities are really not up to date… We want to expand the vision for the new Box Hill Hospital… We believe that an extra $40 million spent now will ensure that at least the hospital has capacity to grow into the future and there will be those additional beds.”
