Berwick's big day: Senators will grill CMS administrator

Donald Berwick, administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, is testifying today before the Senate Finance Committee, presenting an opportunity for Republicans on that panel to revisit their objections to the health law, CQ HealthBeat reports. "Berwick's appearance before the committee comes four months after the president appointed him to the post during a congressional recess, circumventing a full Senate confirmation vote. 'Certainly given the fact he got a recess appointment, and given his love affair with the National Health Service and his desire to nationalize our health care system and the government takeover, there's a whole lot of questions to ask him,' said Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas" (Norman and Ethridge, 11/16).

Kaiser Health News posted an advance copy of his prepared statement, and also has a resource guide, which includes Berwick's own words about the British health care system.
