Loyola nurses honored

Loyola University Health System revenue specialist Judy Williams, RN, CEN, TNS, recently took on a nontraditional nursing role, which resulted in a significant cost savings for the organization. Williams oversees fiscal responsibility for the Emergency Department. In this position, she has identified opportunities to overcome billing obstacles through intradepartmental collaboration and nurse education on proper documentation for reimbursement. Williams recently presented her work at the Nursing Management Congress in Grapevine, Texas. She was recognized for having the award-winning poster of the meeting.

Loyola Nurses Earn Pinnacle Awards for Leadership
Mary Morrow, PhD, APN, ACNS, BC, and LuAnn Vis, RN, MSOD, recently were honored with Pinnacle Awards at The Power of Nursing Leadership Program in Chicago. Morrow and Vis were lauded for their accomplishments as nurse leaders. Dr. Morrow is the director of nursing and the Magnet program director and Vis is the director of quality improvement at Loyola University Health System.

Southwest Oncology Group Appoints Loyola Nurse to Executive Committee
Ceil Petrowsky, RN, MSN, CCRC, OCN, manager of Loyola's Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Clinical Trials Office, has been appointed to the Southwest Oncology Group's Nursing Executive Committee (SWOG). SWOG is one of the largest National Cancer Institute-sponsored cancer clinical trials multi-institutional networks. In this role, Petrowsky will chair the Nursing Disease & Discipline Subcommittee. Nurses in this committee participate in clinical trial development and compliance. They also identify opportunities for nursing research and create educational tools for patient recruitment to clinical trials. Petrowsky is the first Loyola nurse to be appointed to the Nursing Executive Committee.

National Neonatal Organization Appoints Loyola Nurse to Board of Directors
Julie Dahl, MSN, RNC-NIC, was recently appointed the staff nurse director-at-large to the National Association of Neonatal Nurses Board of Directors. Dahl, who works in the neonatal intensive care unit at Loyola University Hospital, will represent the interests of staff nurses on the national level during her two-year term.

Loyola Nurse Publishes Analysis on Bariatric Nursing Certification
Karen Thomas, MS, RN, PCCN, served as the national leader of the Practice Analysis Task Force, which established the American Nurses Credentialing Center-approved bariatric nurse certification criteria. These parameters were recently published in Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases. Thomas is a clinical resource nurse at Loyola University Hospital.

Nurse Leaders Present on New Model of Patient Care
Deborah Jasovsky, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, and Sandy Sojka, PhD, RN, presented on the Magis Model of Care at the Sigma Theta Tau International Annual Research conference in Orlando, Fla. Dr. Jasovsky is the associate chief nurse executive at Loyola University Health System and Dr. Sojka is an assistant professor at Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing.

Teresa Alesia, RN, recently became a certified diabetes educator. Alesia works with pediatric patients in the Loyola Outpatient Center. Debbie Schroeder, BSN, NIC-RNC, became certified in neonatal intensive care from the National Certification Corp. Schroeder works in the NICU at Loyola University Hospital. Alicia Velazco, BSN, RN, CGRN, passed the Gastroenterology Registered Nurse Board Certification exam. Velazco works in the gastroenterology lab at Loyola University Hospital. Sarah Lee, RN, CCRN, recently became certified as a critical-care registered nurse. Lee works in the intensive care unit at Loyola University Hospital. Pam Morano, RN, earned her otorhinolaryngology nurse certification. Morano works in the surgical oncology clinic at Loyola's Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center. Vivien Jobb, RN, recently passed the ambulatory nursing examination and Marsha Moran, RN, received her dermatology nursing certification. Jobb and Moran work at Loyola Center for Health at La Grange Park.
