SINTEF ICT scientists have developed a sensor belt that monitors chronically ill patients and communicates the results via mobile telephone. The scientists are now about to carry out a user trial together with a research partner in the US.
- Six patients with chronic heart disease will take part in a 30-day programme in their own homes. During these days the data will be transmitted to a home-care centre, says Ingrid Svagård at the Instrumentation Department, SINTEF ICT.
The patients will be given feedback to encourage them to be more active and to cope better with their situation.
The easily fitted belt measures heart-rate, temperature and activity, while the patients themselves measure their own weight and blood pressure and report any subjective symptoms.
A full-scale trial will be run in autumn 2011.
