Smiths Medical to establish wholly-owned subsidiary in India

Smiths Medical, a leading global medical device manufacturer, today announced it is to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary in Mumbai, India, to help grow its business in this vitally important part of the world.

"India is one of the most dynamic health care markets in the world," said Srini Seshadri, President of Smiths Medical. "By creating an Indian subsidiary, we are demonstrating our commitment to investing in this market, growing our business and becoming part of the fabric of the regional health care community."

Stuart Morris-Hipkins, Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing, added: "We intend to invest in sales, marketing, R&D and product development geared towards the Indian market. We want to be recognized here as both a global and local company, focused on addressing the needs of the Indian customer."

Mr. Morris-Hipkins added: "We have had a presence for over 20 years in India through our strong distributor network. Our aim in establishing Smiths Medical India is to continue to leverage that network, while also growing our direct-to-customer business."

Speaking at the launch, the UK's Secretary of State (Minister) for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Rt. Hon. Vince Cable MP said, "This represents an exciting step forward in the investments that Smiths Group plc is making in India. It is a fine example of the business ties that we would like to see between India and the UK. The UK's high end technology expertise is second to none in the world and companies like Smiths are a good example of this."
