Orthopaedic groups select Entrada's automated clinical documentation solution

Two large orthopaedic groups have become the most recent customers of Entrada, a company changing the way physicians document patient encounters and use electronic health records (EHRs).

Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance, P.A., a 14-clinic system throughout middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky, has selected Entrada's automated clinical documentation solution to streamline its adoption of electronic health records. Additionally, Triangle Orthopaedic Associates, P.A., has also committed to adopt Entrada at its 10 clinics throughout North Carolina.

Tennessee Orthopaedic (TOA), with 48 physicians, is implementing Entrada across its outpatient facilities. One of TOA's clinics has already piloted the Entrada platform. William C. Beazley, M.D., a TOA physician and board member, says his clinic has seen significant improvement in the accuracy of patient records, the ability to track patient information and the ability of the group's physicians to move to an EHR.

"As orthopaedists, we need to be able to continue dictating a lot of our notes, because of the very detailed documentation required for auto accidents, accidents at work, and so on," Dr. Beazley said. "We've been looking at meaningful use EHRs for some time now and have had a difficult time finding one that works the way we do. We believe Entrada will make an EHR more adaptable to our needs when we move to one, which will probably be in the next twelve months."

Entrada's application allows doctors the flexibility of documenting their patient encounters by dictating into a smart phone, iPad or other recording device, and receiving completed clinical documentation directly into pre-assigned sections of medical record system for review and chart completion. With the adoption of a meaningful use EHR, TOA's next step is to use Entrada's innovative solution to transform free-form dictation into discrete data fields.

Triangle Orthopaedic was looking for similar efficiencies—bridging physician dictation with their EHR—when they selected Entrada. With over 60 doctors, Triangle selected Entrada as a catalyst in adopting and maximizing their NextGen Healthcare electronic health record software.

With federal stimulus money encouraging the transition to electronic records, medical practices are looking for ways to quickly adopt more robust EHR systems. Yet research backs the often-repeated concern among physicians that their productivity is reduced by having to manually enter data into software by typing, using cumbersome drop-down menus, or editing files transcribed by desktop voice recognition software.

Entrada's web-based application makes electronic health records easier for clinics, hospitals and surgery centers to deploy and use. The platform's clinical documentation system is faster and less expensive than traditional transcription, yet allows doctors to continue dictating, with edited files quickly populating their structured EHR systems.

"TOA and Triangle physicians are among the 150,000 doctors practicing in multi-specialty and surgical specialty groups," said Entrada CEO Bill Brown. "They want to move to EHR systems to realize the patient care benefits of electronic health records, but they're not adopting those systems because of the productivity loss that comes with data entry methods that are so much slower than dictation. We've solved that problem, and a number of other costly administrative and clinical data sharing problems in the process."
