Daylight Solutions ships its 200th commercial laser system for scientific applications

Daylight Solutions, Inc., a leading manufacturer of advanced molecular detection, spectroscopic imaging, and high-power illumination solutions, shipped its 200th commercial laser system for scientific applications at the close of 2010. Since its inception in 2005 and first deliveries in 2006, Daylight Solutions has set the standard for performance and reliability in ECqcL™ (External Cavity quantum cascade Laser) technology. "The sale of the 200th Scientific Laser represents a good milestone for the company. Daylight Solutions has not only advanced its systems manufacturing capability, but has also ramped up its high-volume laser module line that feeds into many of our other products." says Dr. Timothy Day, company CEO and CTO.

Daylight Solutions works closely with the world's leading suppliers of Quantum Cascade gain media to ensure that only the most reliable and highest performance chips on the market are used in its products. The company's engineering teams are continuously evolving its packaging capability to match the increase in chip quality. "The excellence of our QCL Suppliers is obviously important, but coating, bonding, thermal management, and cavity configuration all play critical rolls in the overall reliability and lifetime of the systems," says Dr. Michael Radunsky, Scientific Marketing Manager. Lifetime tests demonstrate the robustness of the company's patented packaging process, resulting in system lifetime performance in excess of 10,000 hours. The company's high-power, infrared countermeasure (IRCM) systems are also military qualified, with operating units repeatedly thermal cycled from -54 to +80 °C. The systems have also successfully passed live trials aboard military aircraft.

"Having provided over 200 production units backed with 10,000 hours of lifetime data affords our customers a great deal of confidence that simply cannot be matched elsewhere in the mid-IR laser community," Day continues. "We will continue to work with our Suppliers for improved lifetimes, while challenging ourselves to deliver innovative systems with improvements in all aspects of the design and performance." Daylight Solutions will be displaying its full line of mid-IR scientific laser products in Atlanta at Pittcon 14-17 March, 2011 at Booth 5153.
