Health care reform, environmental disasters and access to care are just a few of the topics offered at the 9th Annual Disparities in Health in the Global Context Summer Workshop. Hosted by the Center for Research on Minority Health (CRMH) at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the weeklong conference promotes collaboration between health care institutions, community leaders and educators in an effort to close the gap in health disparities.

"The importance of this type of forum is becoming more prevalent as we see the many changes in health care that continue to develop on a national level," said Lovell A. Jones, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Health Disparities Research, and director of CRMH at MD Anderson.

The educational conference will offer a variety of sessions, workshops and roundtable discussions. An array of speakers will share insights, breakthroughs and lessons learned in the fight to end disparities and provide care to prevent and treat cancer and other deadly diseases to everyone.

Keynote speaker, Sir Michael Marmot, Ph.D., a professor of epidemiology and public health at University College, London, will deliver a global perspective. Former senior vice president of ABC News Paul Mason and Patricia Gras, Houston PBS senior producer and host, will participate in a media round table with other health care media specialists.
