Fla. lawmakers advance bill on workers' comp drugs; Kan. legislature considers disability changes

A workers' compensation bill aimed at holding down the cost of prescription drugs to employers passed the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee today. [The sponsor, Sen. Alan Hays] said the bill closes a loophole in the workers' compensation system that lets doctors dispense "repackaged drugs" at huge price markups. ... Opponents of the bill say that while pharmacies can buy drugs in bulk, doctors can't, so it would effectively preclude physician-dispensing (Gentry, 1/19).

House Bill 2424 would prevent a single social service agency from assessing a disabled person's needs, serving as their case manager and providing the Medicaid-funded services they need to live in community settings rather than nursing homes (Ranney, 1/19).
