Kaiser Permanente receives five 2014 eHealthcare Leadership Awards

Kaiser Permanente has received five 2014 eHealthcare Leadership Awards, including one of only five organizations to receive the highest honor for eHealth Organizational Commitment.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Kaiser Permanente has won the eHealth Organizational Commitment award, which recognizes the health care provider's commitment to using the Internet and technology to help achieve its mission and strategic business objectives.

"If we want people to engage in their health, we have to provide care where they are," said Christine Paige, senior vice president, Marketing and Internet Services, Kaiser Permanente. "Just as the Internet made it possible for our members to manage their health online a decade ago, new technologies are enabling us to provide care in even more innovative and convenient ways."

Kaiser Permanente's personal health record, My Health Manager on kp.org, received a gold award for Best Health/Healthcare Content. The most widely used personal health record in the country, 4.8 million members use the website to manage their health and stay connected to their doctors.

In 2013 members used the website to:

  • send 14.8 million emails to care providers
  • view 34.5 million lab test results
  • refill 14.8 million prescriptions
  • schedule 3.7 million appointments

The KP App, the mobile version of Kaiser Permanente's personal health record, has been downloaded more than 1.3 million times.

"Our commitment to the digital extends to the shopping experience as well," said Paige. "Signing up for our coverage should be just as easy and convenient as using our care."

Kaiser Permanente's Medicare website, kp.org/medicare, won silver awards for Best Overall Internet Site and Best Design. The website is recognized as a benchmark for excellence in website content, member connectivity, design and privacy assurance, and has received MedicareWebWatch certification for four years straight.

The health care organization also uses technology to spread the message of good health to everyone. Kaiser Permanente's Total Health Radio podcast received a silver award for Best Rich Media. Launched just over a year ago, Total Health Radio addresses timely health topics for you and your family with Kaiser Permanente clinicians, other experts and everyday people. Recent episodes include:

  • All About Our Guts
  • The ABCs of ZZZs
  • The Truth About Pregnancy

"The demands of health care reform and an increasingly competitive environment have accelerated digital innovation," said Mark Gothberg, eHealthcare Leadership Awards chairman. "Organizations have made major improvements in their websites, expanded use of social media, and are employing mobile applications to engage current and prospective customers and enhance quality and operational efficiency."

Winners of the 2014 eHealthcare Leadership Awards were selected from more than 1,000 entries.
