    This article doesn't mention the primary cause of phobia: inability to regulate arousal. Children learn to regulate arousal by being consistently responded to and appropriately calmed by a caregiver. In time, the caregivers response gets built into the child and it automatically and unconsciously regulates the child when stress hormones are released.

    If caregiver response is irregular or inappropriate, development of self-regulation does not develop, and anxiety/phobia issues result.
