Oncology, meaning bulk, mass, or tumor, and the suffix ''-logy'', meaning "study of") is a branch of medicine that deals with tumors (cancer). A medical professional who practices oncology is an ''oncologist''.

HPV vaccination and screening combination can decrease cancer risk by more than 90%

Every year there are around 400 new cases of cervical cancer and a total of approximately 800 cancers associated with HPV (human papilloma virus). Two measures could reverse this trend: the nonavalent HPV vaccination co-developed at MedUni Vienna's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology under the supervision of Elmar Joura and HPV screening by means of smear tests as secondary prevention.

Sunovion announces results from Phase 3 clinical study of new drug in children, adolescents with bipolar depression

Sunovion Pharmaceuticals Inc. today announced post-hoc analysis results of a positive Phase 3 placebo-controlled clinical study, as well as interim data from a long-term open-label extension study evaluating Latuda (lurasidone HCI) in children and adolescents (10 to 17 years of age) with major depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder (bipolar depression).

UC San Diego Health scientists help create ‘dream team’ to prevent pancreatic cancer

Scientists and physicians at Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, in partnership with colleagues at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas, Johns Hopkins University in Maryland and elsewhere, have been awarded a $7 million grant over four years by Stand Up to Cancer to create a "dream team" to develop new ways to prevent pancreatic cancer -- one of the nation's deadliest malignancies.

Preserving sexual function was important to many men facing treatment for prostate cancer, according to a recent study by University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center researchers. Yoga can be beneficial to people with lung cancer and their caregivers

New molecule could become first treatment against chemotherapy-induced neuropathy

IDIBELL Researchers of the Neuro-Oncology Unit of Bellvitge University Hospital - Catalan Institute of Oncology, led by Dr. Jordi Bruna, have successfully tested a new molecule capable of preventing the development of peripheral neuropathy induced by chemotherapy in cancer patients, especially in colon cancer cases, the third most common neoplasm in the world.
