Liposome extrusion methods for controlled particle size and performance

Liposomes have emerged as a significant biomedical carrier system. Particle size is one of the most important elements impacting the performance of liposomes.

High-pressure homogenization, extrusion, and sonication are all strategies for lowering liposome size. Extrusion is a very simple and rapid process.

The Genizer Jacketed Liposome Extruder uses a nitrogen gas cylinder to push a drug, protein, or gene liposome solution through a track-etched membrane with a preset pore size; typically, five– 10 passes are sufficient to produce a sample with uniform liposome size. The Genizer Jacketed Liposome Extruders are intended to create consistent unilamellar liposomes and lipopolyplexes with a low dead volume.
