In cell culture applications, a synthetic extracellular matrix called poly-D-lysine (PDL) is used to encourage cell adhesion. The PDL coating on polystyrene (PS) microplates improves cell attachment and growth by increasing the number of positively charged cell-binding sites.

The synthetic PDL coating ensures that no biological impurities or signaling pathways are stimulated in cultured cell systems and is free of biological impurities.

Due to improved growth and survival of neuronal cells like primary neurons and neuroblastoma, as well as transfected cell lines, glial cells, and adherent fibroblasts, PDL-coated plates are frequently used for neuronal applications. Additionally, PDL-coated plates are excellent for growing cell lines like HEK-293, L929, BHK-21, PC12, and NSC-34.
