Overweight women with low levels of the hormone adiponectin prior to pregnancy are nearly seven times more likely to develop gestational diabetes, according to a Kaiser Permanente study published today in the journal Diabetes Care. Adiponectin protects against insulin resistance, inflammation and heart disease.

Mallinckrodt to present MNK-795 clinical data at PAINWeek 2013

Mallinckrodt announced today that the first clinical data on MNK-795 will be presented at PAINWeek 2013, to be held September 4-7 in Las Vegas. MNK-795 is an extended-release oral formulation of oxycodone and acetaminophen that has been studied in clinical trials for the management of moderate to severe acute pain where the use of an opioid analgesic is appropriate.

Studies show that migraine is more common among people with lower incomes. This relationship is examined in a study published in the August 28, 2013, online issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, looking at whether developing migraines limits people's educational and career achievements, leading to a lower income status, or whether problems related to low income such as stressful life events and poor access to health care increase the likelihood of developing migraines.
