Nitroglycerin ointment may help in improving older women’s bone health: Study

A new study has shown that nitroglycerin ointment, that is used for chest pain or angina can be beneficial in postmenopausal women in improving their bone density. In this group of women, the bone becomes increasingly weak and brittle and leads to easy fractures. The study showed that postmenopausal women who used it for 2 years showed a modest increase in bone mineral density and decrease in bone resorption (loss). The study was published in the February 23 issue of JAMA.

Researchers have found that a rare but hard-to-treat form of breast cancer is driven by a newly discovered gene. The gene ZNF703 is the first oncogene to be discovered in five years, and it could lead to more effective treatments down the road, Cancer Research UK said.

A new government commissioned study has found that Colorado has one of the most active populations in the country and Kentucky has one of the least active. This study is the third in a series of county-focused reports by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The number of women diagnosed with breast cancer per year in the seven major markets is forecast to increase by 13% over the next decade, finds independent healthcare analyst, Datamonitor.* However, in Japan, breast cancer incidence rates will rise by approximately 24% to 2019 to reach 56,400 cases, compared to 45,600 cases in 2010.

Biologist investigates CAPV-EAE population for hereditary breast and ovary cancer

Between 5 % and 10 % of breast cancer cases are hereditary, arising because the patient inherits from the father or mother a mutation in a gene that is susceptible to causing the illness. BRCA1 and BRCA2 have already been identified as two of the genes to be monitored. It is estimated that 30 % of hereditary breast cancer cases are due to mutations in one of these two genes.
