PhotoMedex announces the closure of private placement, raises $2.7 million

PhotoMedex, Inc. today announced that it has closed a private placement of approximately 4.17 million shares of its common stock at a price of $0.65 per share. Gross proceeds from the private placement are approximately $2.7 million. The purchasers were accredited investors, some of which were institutions.

Study compares effects of clin-BPO 2.5% and clin-BPO 5% on epidermal functions

Dermatologists agree that topical fixed-combination products containing clindamycin (clin) and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) are effective in the treatment of acne. However, products containing BPO concentrations at 5% or higher may limit use due to associated dryness and irritation in some patients.

NanoBio's NB-401 preclinical data to be presented at the 2009 North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference

NanoBio Corporation today announced compelling preclinical data for NB-401, a nebulized nanoemulsion-based agent that kills highly drug-resistant strains of bacteria commonly found in cystic fibrosis patients. Currently there are limited treatment options available that effectively address these resistant bacteria. The study results are being presented today at the 2009 Annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference (NACFC) in Minneapolis, Minn.

Merz publishes Phase III study results assessing the impact of NT 201 on muscle tone

Data results published this month in Clinical Neuropharmacology, revealed that Merz Pharmaceuticals' NT 201 (botulinum toxin type A free from complexing proteins), also known by the brand name Xeomin in Europe and Canada, was statistically significantly more efficacious than placebo for the treatment of patients with post-stroke upper limb spasticity.

940nm wavelength laser is superior for treating facial spider veins: BUSM researchers

Researchers from Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) have concluded that the 940nm wavelength laser is superior for treating facial spider veins (telangiectasias) as compared to the 532nm wavelength laser. The findings, which appear in the recent issue of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, are the first time these lasers were tested against each other for superiority.
