Risk of womb cancer now linked to some hormone-replacement therapy

Researchers in the UK say that certain types of hormone-replacement therapy (HRT) increase a woman’s risk of womb cancer while others do not. The study found that though many post-menopausal women, who have not had a hysterectomy, use combined HRT because oestrogen only are thought to increase the risk of womb cancer, little information exists on the incidence of womb cancer in users of these other therapies.

Herceptin in combination with chemotherapy reduces risk of breast cancer recurrence in women with with early-stage breast cancer

Results from two clinical trials show that patients with early-stage breast cancer who received trastuzumab (Herceptin) in combination with chemotherapy had a 52 percent decrease in risk for breast cancer recurrence, compared with patients who received the same chemotherapy without the drug. The difference is statistically highly significant.

Anderson Cancer Center have developed a way to use RNA interference (RNAi) so that it permanently hampers breast cancer development. The technique permanently silences activated STAT3, a crucial gene found in some human breast tumors, thus reducing the cancer's ability to become invasive.
