Isis Pharma announces ISIS-CRPRx Phase 1 trial results in diseases with elevated CRP

Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today the results from a Phase 1 clinical trial in which ISIS-CRPRx produced statistically significant reductions in C-reactive protein in the cohort of subjects in the study with elevated CRP.

Study finds link between fasting serum glucose levels and in-hospital mortality in elderly non-diabetic patients

A two-country hospital study of 808 elderly patients found a strong association between high, undiagnosed blood glucose in non-diabetic patients and increased hospital death rates, according to the March issue of IJCP, the International Journal of Clinical Practice.

Onyx, Bayer initiate patient enrollment in Nexavar Phase 3 trial for breast cancer treatment

Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals and Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced the companies have begun enrolling patients in a Phase 3 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluating Nexavar tablets in combination with the oral chemotherapeutic agent, capecitabine, versus placebo plus capecitabine for the treatment of patients with advanced breast cancer.

Roche receives DOD approval to provide remote service and support for its lab analyzers

Roche announced today that it has received approval from the U.S. Department of Defense to provide remote service and support for its lab analyzers at Womack Army Medical Center through the DOD's secure B2B gateway. Roche is the first in-vitro diagnostics manufacturer to be approved by the DOD for this remote access.

Excess weight contributes to higher risk of death in Asians

A study of more than 1 million Asians found that those who were a normal weight were far less likely to die from any cause than individuals whose body-mass index (BMI) was too high or low. A similar association was seen between BMI and the risk of death from cancer, cardiovascular disease or other causes.
