Swine flu a form of influenza, became a major health scare assuming pandemic proportions starting in Mexico early last year. There were 37,000 confirmed cases in Australia with 5,000 hospitalizations, 700 admissions in intensive care units and 191 deaths.

A Princeton University research team has demonstrated that all sweeteners are not equal when it comes to weight gain: Rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup gained significantly more weight than those with access to table sugar, even when their overall caloric intake was the same.

ChemGenex Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Shares fell most in the last 16 years to AUD$0.44 following a concern raised by the US drug regulators – US FDA. The FDA requested on Monday for more uniform clinical test data before they review and consider approval of the company’s new leukemia drug.

CT colonography screening identifies unsuspected cancer outside of colon

A new, large-scale study of more than 10,000 adults found that more than one in every 200 asymptomatic people screened with CT colonography, or virtual colonoscopy, had clinically unsuspected malignant cancer and more than half of the cancers were located outside the colon. The findings were published in the April issue of the journal Radiology.

Advaxis' ADXS11-001 Phase 1 study for cervix cancer failures: 13.3% of treated patients alive at over 3 years

Ongoing follow up of the surviving patients from the phase I study of ADXS11-001 for the treatment of cervix cancer failures conducted by Advaxis, Inc.,, the live, attenuated Listeria monocytogenes (Listeria) immunotherapy company, has shown that two of fifteen treated patients or 13.3% are still alive 1,248 and 1,128 days after receiving their initial dose.
